South Korea's KFA purchased 68,000 T of corn in a private deal, traders claim

According to European traders, the Korea Feed Association in South Korea bought an estimated 68,000 tons of animal feed grain in a private transaction on Friday. There was no international tender.

They said that the corn could be purchased from anywhere in the world, but not from the Black Sea Region.

The KFA Busan section is believed to have purchased the corn from Cargill for an estimated cost and freight of $252.99 per ton, including a surcharge to cover additional port unloading.

Arrival of corn in South Korea is expected around July 15th. The corn will arrive in South Korea between June 1 to June 30 if it is sourced from the Pacific Northwest coast of the United States. Only 50,000 tonnes of product is required if sourced from South Africa.

The reports reflect the opinions of traders, and it is still possible to estimate prices and volume later.

On Thursday and Friday, traders reported that Korean buyers purchased corn in large quantities. The buyers were apparently taking advantage the new lows of Chicago corn futures, which have been hit in three weeks due to expectations of an increase in U.S. plantings for this year. Michael Hogan reports.
