Norway will continue to supply fuel to the US Navy despite a boycott call by a company

The Norwegian defence minister confirmed on Sunday that the NATO country will continue to provide fuel to U.S. Navy vessels, despite a request from a private marine oil supplier to cease doing so due to an apparent breakdown in U.S. - Ukrainian relations.

We have read reports that raise concerns over the support provided to U.S. Navy ships in Norway. "This is not in accordance with the Norwegian Government's Policy," Norway's Defense Minister Tore Sandvik stated in a press release.

He added that "American forces would continue to receive from Norway the supplies and support required by them."

Sandvik made his statement after Haltbakk Bunkers, a privately owned Norwegian fuel supplier, announced that it would cease supplying U.S. Navy vessels in response to the way Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy was treated on Friday at the White House.

It is a great credit to the President of Ukraine for his calmness and restraint despite a nasty TV show from USA. It made us sick...No Fuel to Americans!" the company wrote in a Facebook post that has since been deleted.

Haltbakk Bunkers' CEO Gunnar Grant confirmed to Norwegian paper VG that his company decided not to supply U.S. Military. He said, however, the decision would have a symbolic impact because it did not have a contract.

The company didn't immediately respond to our request for comment. (Reporting and editing by Terje Sollsvik, Hugh Lawson, Nerijus Adomiaitis)
