First King Charles red post box revealed

The very first red mail pillar box to bear the cypher of King Charles was revealed on Friday, keeping up a tradition going back nearly 175 years.

The new box has been set up on the High Street in Great Cambourne, main England, and regional school children will get to publish the very first letters, missives to the king himself about their interest in the environment.

The mail box bears the king's cypher, the monogram that appears on federal government structures which includes the initials ' C' and 'R' - representing Charles's name and Rex, the Latin for king - alongside a representation of the crown.

Among Britain's many recognisable signs, red pillar boxes appear on many postcards and keepsake items, with about 115,000 in operation throughout the nation.

The first post box was introduced in the 1850s, and their age can be traced by the royal cypher they bear, with the earliest going back to the reign of Queen Victoria, Charles' great-great-great grandma.

Although new boxes have been set up considering that Charles prospered his mom in Sept. 2022, existing stocks bearing the late queen's cypher were utilized.
