Birmingham Airport in the UK temporarily closes due to a 'emergency' landing

Birmingham Airport, in central England, temporarily closed its runway Wednesday following an emergency landing in which a small plane was involved. One person suffered minor injuries.

In a posting on X, the police stated that emergency crews responded to the incident at approximately 1340 local (1240 GMT).

The force also added that the Civil Aviation Authority (which regulates the industry) had been notified.

Social media images shared showed a small propeller plane stationary on the runway at Britain's 7th busiest airport.

The Telegraph reported that the delay would extend until 1800 local (1700 GMT) at the airport. The airport spokesperson said they couldn't confirm an exact time for the reopening.

The airport is the third-largest in Britain outside of London. (Reporting and editing by Sachin Ravikumar, Catarina demony and Sarah Young)
