Florida lawmakers vote to rename Palm Beach Airport after Trump

Florida lawmakers approved legislation on Thursday renaming Palm Beach International Airport after U.S. president Donald Trump.

The Florida Senate voted 25-11 to approve the measure, just days after Florida's House of Representatives approved it 81-30.

Democrats opposed the airport rebranding, but Republicans largely supported it.

"It's misguided and unfair that the Republican-controlled Florida Legislature ?ignored the voices of Palm Beach County by pushing forward ?a bill to rename Palm Beach International Airport without giving County ?residents a real opportunity for input," said U.S. Representative Lois Frankel, a Democrat ?who represents West Palm Beach.

The bill will now be sent to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (a Republican), who has yet to say whether or not he will sign the bill. The governor's staff did not respond immediately to a comment request.

The White House declined comment. The Trump Organization and Palm Beach County's spokespeople did not respond immediately to requests for comments.

The Florida legislature approved last year a plan for a donation of property in downtown Miami to be used as the site for a 'Trump presidential library'.

Trump, who is originally from?New York City, moved to Florida in 2019 He lived in a penthouse of 'Trump Tower' before the move but now resides at his Mar-a-Lago Resort, West Palm Beach.
