The Arizona Department of Transportation says that Tesla has requested certification for its robotaxi service in Arizona.

The Arizona Department of Transportation said that Tesla contacted the state late last month about starting a certification process to create an autonomous vehicle ride sharing service. A decision is expected to be made by the end this month.

Arizona's Department of Transportation stated in an email that "They have expressed interest to operate within the Phoenix Metro Area." Tesla has asked to operate and test both with and without drivers, the Arizona Department of Transportation said.
