Russia claims to have repelled a drone attack by Ukraine on Turkstream Pipeline compressor station

The Russian Defence Ministry reported that on Saturday, Russian air defences repelled a drone attack from Ukraine on a Russian compressor station which is part of Turkstream's pipeline system that transports Russian gas into Europe.

The statement stated that "Russian air defences, in repelling the attacks, downed three Ukrainian Drones at a distance safe from the compressor station," referring to "Russkaya", a station located in the southern Russian region of Krasnodar.

The Turkstream pipeline is flowing normally now that the compressor station has been installed.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that Sergei Lavrov, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, asked Hakan Fidan to use every means available to him to prevent any future attacks. Fidan promised to do this, according to the website.

Hungarian Foreign Ministry Peter Szijjarto said on Facebook, that Lavrov informed him by phone of the attack.

Szijjarto said that the operation of Turkstream is critical for Hungary's energy safety and called on European Union to maintain guarantees that infrastructure connected to the 27-nation block would not be attacked. (Reporting and editing by Ron Popeski)
