Russian military accuses Ukrainian Army of blowing Sudzha Gas Facility during Kursk Retreat

The Russian Defence Ministry accused Ukraine on Friday of blowing up an important Russian gas pumping station and metering facility near the Ukrainian border, as Ukrainian forces fled the Kursk area that they had controlled in parts since August of last year.

The ministry stated that the facility near Sudzha in Russia, which was once used by Gazprom for exporting gas to Europe via Ukraine, was under control of Kyiv forces "until recently" and had been used as a logistic base.

The ministry issued a statement saying that the explosion of a Russian energy facility in the Kursk area by Ukrainian troops retreating from it was a deliberate act by the Kyiv government.

"(This should be seen as) part of a recent series of strikes against the Russian Federation's energy infrastructure aimed at discrediting President Obama's peace initiatives."

The Ukrainian military denied any involvement in the attack on Friday and accused Russian forces for shelling its artillery as part of a false flag "provocation." (Reporting and Writing by Anastasia Teterevleva, Editing by Andrew Osborn).
