Malaysia's Petronas has added three new LNG ships ahead of the start-up of LNG Canada

Petroliam Nasional Berhad, the Malaysian state-owned energy company (Petronas), announced on Monday that it will add three LNG vessels with high energy efficiency to its North American operations.

The company announced that the addition of these vessels brings the fleet of Petronas in North America up to six. This is ahead of the launch of LNG Canada’s gas-export facilities due later this summer.

Petronas owns a 25% stake of the LNG Canada plant located in Kitimat on the west coast, British Columbia.

The company said that "with the arrival of these vessels, Petronas strengthens its commitment to provide this fuel of choice in an efficient and reliable way to its customers."

The vessels were constructed at the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard located in Ulsan. The ships have a cargo volume of 174,000 cubic metres and are the biggest in Petronas fleet, according to the company.
