WestJet receives 2nd strike notice from union

Canada's WestJet Airlines said on Wednesday a union representing its maintenance engineers had rejected its brand-new deal and served a second strike notification, simply days after the union cancelled a strike and accepted go back to the bargaining table.

WestJet, which is backed by Onex Corp and competes with Air Canada, has been facing needs from staff members for enhanced working conditions and greater salaries.

A work interruption by the Airplane Mechanics Fraternal Association might take place as soon as June 28, the airline stated in a statement.

Its newest deal had presented a modified pay that would see aircraft maintenance engineers receive a 22% increase over four years, the carrier said.

The union didn't instantly react to a ' request for comment.

The airline recently cancelled 40 flights that affected 6,500 consumers after it was rendered a 72-hour strike notice by the union. On June 20, the union withdrew the strike notification and agreed to return to discussions.
