Kenya aviation workers' union postpones planned strike

The greatest union of Kenya's. air travel workers has actually postponed for 2 weeks a planned strike. that was set up to start on Monday, to allow talks with the. federal government over a proposed handle an Indian business to. establish the country's main airport.

If the conference fails to reach any agreement, the union will. issue fresh strike notice for its members.

The airport is a major local air travel center and a strike. would trigger substantial disturbance to the region's air traffic.

The federal government has stated the airport is not for sale and that. no decision had been made on whether to proceed with what it. called a proposed public-private partnership with the Adani. company to update the hub.

The airports authority has said Adani prepares to add a second. runway at the Jomo Kenyatta global airport and upgrade. the passenger terminal if its proposition is authorized.

According to the Kenyan federal government, the airport is extended. beyond its capability of 7.5 million passengers a year and is in. urgent requirement of improvements, projected to cost $2 billion.
