Boeing expects disturbance 2-3 weeks beyond end of strike, states Ryanair

Boeing has told significant customer Ryanair that production is likely to be interrupted for 2 to 3 weeks after completion of the current strike, Ryanair Group President Michael O'Leary stated on Tuesday.

Furloughs at Boeing began on Friday for countless employees in Washington State and Oregon, after more than 32,000 employees went on strike the previous week, stopping production of the U.S. planemaker's best-selling 737 MAX and other jets.

Boeing are telling us that the strike will postpone airplane deliveries by the length of the strike plus 2 or 3 weeks, O'Leary informed a news conference, approximating the strike would last 2 to 4 weeks.

He said Ryanair had actually been assured by Boeing that the timing of the delivery of 30 737 MAX jets due by next June would not be impacted if the strike ended within three to four weeks.

We're not exactly sure, though, that we necessarily think that however we have no option aside from to work with Boeing once the strike is over to help them to increase production and capture up the 3, 4, 5, 6 weeks of hold-ups.

Previously this month O'Leary stated a combination of existing backlogs and an extended Boeing strike might cut the number of aircraft it receives by next summer season to 20.

Inquired about that comment on Tuesday, he said Ryanair was still working on the presumption all 30 would be provided.
