Singapore fighter jets escort Air India flight after bomb risk

Oct 16 - Singapore's flying force mobilised two fighter jets late on Tuesday in action to a bomb threat on an Air India Express flight bound for the city-state, its defence minister said.

2 Singapore air force F-15SG jets rushed and accompanied Air India flight AXB684 far from populated areas after the airline got an e-mail that there was a bomb on board its plane, Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen said in a Facebook post.

Ng said the plane was escorted and landed safely at Changi Airport at 10:04 p.m. (1404 GMT) on Tuesday, adding that Singapore's ground based air defence systems and dynamite disposal team were likewise activated.

As soon as on the ground, the airplane was handed to the airport police, Ng said.

The cops said no danger products were found on board the aircraft after finishing security checks, including that investigations were continuous.

The police take security threats seriously and will not think twice to act versus those who deliberately trigger public alarm, it said in an emailed declaration.

Air India did not right away respond to an ask for comment. But it stated on social networks that another of its flights bound for Chicago had landed in Canada as a preventive procedure on Tuesday following a security danger published online.

Air India notes that it, and other local airlines, have gone through a variety of threats in current days. Though all have actually subsequently been found to be hoaxes, as an accountable airline operator all hazards are taken seriously, it said.
