Moscow airports awash with chaos after major Ukrainian drone attacks

Russian media reported that major Ukrainian drone attacks against Russia caused chaos on Monday at the airports in Moscow, where thousands of passengers waited in long lines or slept on the ground after flights were delayed or cancelled.

Russian media published videos showing people sleeping in the airport's Sheremetyevo terminal, Russia's busiest by passenger number.

The Russian defence ministry reported that it had shot down 117 drones over night, including thirty in the Moscow area, after shooting down 172 drones the day before, including 30-plus in the Moscow area.

Rosaviatsiya - the Russian civil aviation authority - briefly restricted flights at Moscow's major airports, Sheremetyevo Vnukovo Domodedovo Zhukovskiy.

Russian media reported that several thousand people had been stranded due to the cancellations of flights to Europe. Additional trains were also put in place to transport passengers from St Petersburg in northern Russia back to Moscow.

Moscow and the surrounding area has at least 21,5 million people.
