• The Trump administration is temporarily allowed to unfreeze Chicago Transit Funding by a judge

  A U.S. Judge on Tuesday ordered President Donald Trump’s administration to temporarily unfreeze approximately $3 billion in funding in Chicago for rail projects. On Friday, the?Chicago Transit Authority filed a lawsuit against?the U.S. Transportation Department's Federal?Transit Administration. The suit claimed that federal officials had refused to reimburse at least $9.5 millions in grants approved by former Democratic President Joe Biden. The city called the funding suspension a political act of retaliation. U.S. district judge Thomas Durkin granted CTA's request to issue a temporary restraining?order?to demand the funding, but put his decision on hold until this Friday in order to give federal government the time?to appeal. The ruling is a part of an ongoing legal battle between the Trump Administration and Democratic-governed Cities over?the withholding billions of dollars of previously approved federal funding for transit. Similar lawsuits have been filed in New York. The CTA called the ruling on Tuesday "a massive step towards restoration of funding for this historical project." Durkin's decision noted that the Transportation Department only applied concerns about compliance with anti-discrimination law to major projects in Chicago, New York and other cities. This indicates that reviews are "a pretext for some interest unrelated to compliance." Chicago is the second largest U.S. city for public transportation, with a daily average of about one million trips. Transit agency said the frozen grants were crucial for modernizing and expanding the "L," Chicago’s system of elevated and underground trains. The funding had been frozen to upgrade a century-old rail structure and extend a rail line by 8 km (5.5 miles). • Bahrain releases revised UN Hormuz draft but does not enforce it

  Bahrain circulated a revised draft U.N. Security Council resolution on protecting commercial ships?in and around Strait of Hormuz. The language was retained, authorising "all necessary measures" but removing a reference to 'binding enforcement. The shipping through this waterway has already been slowed down to a near halt, after Iran attacked vessels during its conflict with Israel and the United States. Bahrain's first draft was seen and supported by other Gulf Arab countries and Washington. It explicitly invoked Chapter VII (of the U.N. Charter) which allows the Security Council authorise measures from sanctions to military power. Diplomats stated that adoption of such a resolution was unlikely as Iran's partners Russia, and China were expected to veto the measure if needed. A Security Council Resolution requires at least 9 votes in favor and no vetoes by its five permanent members, the United States of America, Russia, China and Britain. The revised text, which diplomats say is still being negotiated, does not mention Chapter VII but keeps the language that goes with it. The bill would allow states to use "all necessary means" (either individually or in voluntary coalitions) in the Strait of Hormuz and Gulf of Oman, as well as the Gulf of Oman, for the purpose of ensuring passage and preventing interference with international navigation. This includes within or near the territorial waters. The draft encourages all states who rely on commercial maritime routes that pass through the Strait of Gibraltar to coordinate their defensive efforts. This includes escorting merchant vessels. The crude oil, once it is fully refined and discharged, should allow the Cuban government to breathe a little more, despite increasing pressure from the Trump administration. So, we will continue working on this." The Trump administration said Monday that it would examine any further oil shipments made to Cuba "case by case". Anatoly Koodkin was not the only tanker that had been stuck in the middle of the Atlantic for weeks. Another tanker called the Sea Horse also carried Russian diesel, but it was rerouted from Cuba to Venezuela. The White House has softened the blanket ban on Cuban oil exports. It's unclear whether Sea Horse or other tankers originally bound for Cuba are going to try and discharge their cargoes at Cuban ports. Ford claims BlueCruise, an advanced hands-free?system, operates on 97% U.S. highways and Canadian highways without intersections or traffic lights.
