Indonesia searches for missing persons after landfill collapse kills 4.

An official reported on Monday that rescuers were still searching for five missing people following the collapse of a large pile of garbage at Indonesia's largest landfill site over the weekend. At least four people died.

According to?Desiana Karatika Bahari of the local rescue agency, the collapse occurred at the Bantargebang dump on Sunday. The landfill is located near the city of?Bekasi, on the outskirts Jakarta.

She said that it was likely caused by the heavy rainfall which hit the area on Saturday evening.

Bahari stated that "it rained all day, even Saturday evening (Saturday), and the mountain of trash was unstable."

When the collapse occurred, some trucks were unloading trash. There was also a nearby?food stall.

She said that the missing people were truck drivers and scavengers, adding that it was possible there could be more people buried at the landfill.

Four people were rescued from the accident.

Since Monday morning, more than?200 rescuers including police,?military and 17 excavators have been deployed to'search for the missing.

Bantargebang is a 110-hectare area that receives between 6,500 and 7,000 tons of waste per day. (Reporting and editing by David Stanway; Ananda Teresia)
