EnBW, a German company, signs a deal with Acwa to develop ammonia hydrogen pathways

EnBW, a German company, announced on Sunday that it had signed an?understanding with Saudi Arabia Acwa in order to develop a path to import and to treat ammonia' for use in German Hydrogen Energy Projects.

Authorities have stated that Germany will need to import between 50-70% of the hydrogen it needs to meet its clean energy goals.

EnBW stated in a press release that the MoU was signed by a German delegation headed by Economy Minister Katherina Reiche during their visit to Saudi Arabia. The MoU included a number of companies, including VNG, Germany's largest LNG importer, which they own a majority stake in, as well as the port of Rostock, located in the northeastern part of Germany.

EnBW CEO Georg Stamatelopoulos stated that the signing of the memorandum is an important milestone. "We are advancing towards establishing a reliable "import corridor" for green ammonia, from Saudi Arabia to Germany."

VNG will?develop a cracker facility in Rostock?to extract hydrogen from ammonia that can be fed into the German hydrogen core system, according to the statement.

The system will be operational from 2030. (Reporting and editing by James Mackenzie, Alexander Smith).
