Naftogaz, Ukraine's Naftogaz, says Russia has struck its facility in Western Ukraine

Naftogaz, the Ukrainian state-owned oil and gas company, said Tuesday that a Russian attack had hit one of its facilities in a western area. The strike caused a fire and stopped operations. Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Russia has intensified its bombardment of Ukraine's power system.

The company said in a statement that this was the 15th attack on their infrastructure since 2026.

The impact resulted in a fire on the site. Sergii Korteskyi, Naftogaz's CEO, wrote on Facebook that the company immediately halted the technological processes in the facility for safety reasons and to prevent pollution. Since last fall, Russia has been 'deliberately attacking Ukrainian gas distribution and production, forcing Kyiv to compensate the losses with large-scale imports. Late last year, the central bank governor stated that Ukraine lost around half its gas production.

Naftogaz has not named the facility that was attacked, but the emergency services reported an earlier fire on Tuesday after an attack against an?industrial site in the western Lviv Region, and officials in Brody have warned residents about pollution due to burning oil products.

Brody is the place where the Druzhba?pipeline that supplies Russian oil into Eastern European countries meets the Brody - Odesa oil pipeline. The Brody - Odesa oil pipe was built to connect Druzhba to oil terminals at the 'Black Sea. This is the first time that Russian forces have attacked an oil?pipeline, through which Russia delivers oil to Europe. Ukraine has attacked Druzhba repeatedly on Russian soil, which caused oil to be stopped and sparked protests in Hungary and Slovakia.
