CMA CGM claims that its ship lost 44 cargo containers during bad weather

CMA CGM, a French shipping and logistic company, announced on Thursday that the ship "Benjamin Franklin", which was sailing in bad weather conditions near South Africa's coast on Tuesday, had lost 44 cargo containers.

The company reported that there had been no injuries to crew members, no pollution and no damage to the vessel, which was still fully seaworthy.

The company reported that the ship encountered "unexpectedly severe adverse weather conditions" while traveling from Asia to Europe.

Transnet, a South African logistics firm, said Tuesday that it had suspended its operations in some of its ports because of strong winds and waves.

CMA CGM stated that it immediately notified the relevant authorities. The ship will proceed to Cape Town for an assessment of the situation. It will also notify customers affected.

When asked by the company about the contents of containers, the customers affected and the cost of remedies, the company refused to comment. Reporting by Olivier Sorgho, Gdansk. Editing by Milli Nissi
