After key client's resignation, the future of Meyer Burger, a Swiss solar panel manufacturer is in doubt

Meyer Burger said on Friday that its future was uncertain following the announcement that its largest customer had terminated its agreement with it. The struggling solar panel manufacturer is trying to restructure its operations in order to remain in business.

Meyer Burger reported that the renewable energy company DESRI notified Swiss firm Meyer Burger that they would be terminating their agreement with immediate effect.

Meyer Burger stated in a press release that they are analysing the situation, but regardless of whether such an action is valid, it will likely adversely impact their financial restructuring efforts which are already advanced.

Meyer Burger stated that if the financial restructuring failed, it was possible that the company would no longer be able to continue operating as a "going concern". Meyer Burger added that more information would be provided in due time.

Bernd Laux is an analyst with Zuercher Kantonalbank. He said that the news was not good for the company.

He said that DESRI, the company's largest customer by far, was likely to be the last Meyer Burger.

Laux added that "Meyer Burger's business model, which involves manufacturing solar cells in Germany before selling them to the United States is no longer viable."

Meyer Burger is expected to get nearly 90% of sales in 2025 and 2026 from DESRI.

The Swiss stock exchange SIX Swiss Exchange suspended trading in Meyer Burger shares earlier today. SIX has announced that the shares will resume trading at 1130 GMT. (Reporting and editing by Marlee Kaesebier, John Revill)
