UK examines Epstein's airport use for trafficking

British police are investigating whether Jeffrey Epstein smuggled women on private flights through the?London airport as part of a?nationally?coordinated?effort?to investigate sex offenders' ties to Britain.

Essex Police announced on Wednesday that they are investigating information about private flights in and out of Stansted Airport to the north of London. This follows the U.S. Government's publication of millions of documents regarding Epstein, at the end of January.

The British police created a national coordination team to help individual forces investigate Epstein's connections to Britain and British people.

The National Police Chiefs' Council said that they continue to 'work collaboratively' to assess any details made public. This will allow them to better understand the potential impact of the millions of 'documents' published.

FURORE ?IN BRITAIN

The Epstein scandal has already had a major effect in Britain.

Two police forces are investigating allegations of misconduct by public officials against the former British Ambassador to the U.S. Peter Mandelson and the younger brother, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, of King Charles. According to the Epstein files, both men had sent confidential government documents on behalf of the late U.S. financier.

Both men denied any wrongdoing, and said they regretted their friendship with Epstein. However, they did not respond to specific questions after the publication of the latest documents.

BBC reported in the last year that unidentified females were listed as passengers on 87 flights that had been linked to Epstein between 1990 and 2018.

The Epstein files contain a number of documents that refer to Stansted. One document, for example, discussed whether or not a Russian woman who had a U.S. Visa could change planes at Stansted. There are also tens or even hundreds of references in the files to UK visas.

Stansted Airport said in a press release that private flights are not managed by its terminal, and Border Force is responsible for customs and immigration checks.

All individuals entering Britain must be thoroughly checked according to Border Force regulations. (Reporting and writing by Kate Holton; Additional reporting by Sam Tabahriti, Muvija M.
