Kenya will expand its main airport with some of the proceeds from the pipeline IPO

William Ruto, the President of Kenya, said that Kenya would use up to $155 million (or 15 to 20 billion shillings) from an initial public offering (IPO), to expand Nairobi's main airport.

Last week, the?government announced that it raised 106.3 billion shillings through the sale of a 65% stake in Kenya Pipeline Company. Proceeds would be used to fund projects such as highways, rails and ports.

Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, it has been said, is over capacity and needs modernisation.

Ruto said that the expansion of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport would be the first major project to be funded under this new model.
