3 UK airports get injunction to stop ecological protesters interrupting flights

The owners of three British airports were granted a court order on Friday to stop environmental protesters from potentially disrupting flights over the summer vacations.

East Midlands, Manchester and Stansted airports made an application for an injunction to prevent individuals unknown from trespassing on their land, in an effort to avoid disruptive protests.

Object group Simply Stop Oil has stated it prepares to target airports in Britain during the summer, the airports' legal representative Timothy Morshead told London's High Court.

He referred in specific to a June occurrence when 2 protesters spray-painted planes at London's Stansted airport having actually cut a hole in a boundary fence with an angle grinder.

The criminal law can only operate in hindsight and, where you are dealing with something as sensitive as an airport, that's. troublesome, Morshead stated.

Just Stop Oil did not right away respond to an ask for. remark. The group has said it uses disruptive actions to raise. awareness of the impacts of climate change.

Judge Rosalind Coe granted the 3 airports a 12-month. injunction following a hearing at which no demonstration group was. represented.

The judge said that there is clear evidence that there is a. danger and intent to target airports which needed a court. order to avoid disturbance.

The airports' relocation follows similar applications for. injunctions by public bodies and government firms in reaction. to high-profile protest actions in recent years.

British police last week independently stated they had arrested. 27 climate activists on suspicion of preparing to trigger. interruption at airports this summertime.
