Poland's big air hub plan to proceed, states PM

Poland will go on with plans developed by the previous federal government to construct a substantial air center in the centre of the country, but with modifications, Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated on Wednesday.

The Central Interaction Port (CPK) airport project had presented a problem for Tusk's pro-European coalition federal government, which took office in December.

The nationalist Law and Justice (PiS) federal government proposed the building of a local transport hub serving around 40 million passengers a year, with high-speed rail connections, intending to enhance Poland's economy and international status. PiS also stated it could be utilized for military functions.

But the task was criticised for its cost and scale, and for its place far from any significant city.
