AirAsia is close to purchasing at least 100 Airbus A220 jets as it shifts to the A220, according to sources

AirAsia has advanced talks to place an order at the Paris Airshow for at least 100 Airbus planes. This deal will likely mark the introduction of the A220 to the Airbus fleet, according to industry sources.

AirAsia, a low-cost airline based in Malaysia, operates a fleet of all Airbus aircraft and previously stated that it would like to expand its fleet to include smaller planes for regional routes.

Airbus is one of the largest customers, with several hundred planes on order. However, this airline hasn't placed an order for a while.

As a result of financial problems, it has steadily restructured its order book.

Malaysia's stock market classified the company as financial distressed in 2022, after it was hard-hit by travel restrictions. The company hopes to be out of this financial distress status by mid-2022.

Capital A intends to sell AirAsia's aviation business to AirAsia X, a long-haul division. This will consolidate both long-haul and short-haul flights under a single AirAsia name.
