Air France-KLM reports record operating profit of 2 billion euros as the premium business booms

Air France-KLM reported stronger-than-expected full-year results ?and a record operating profit ?on Thursday, as ?its strategy ?of offering a premium customer experience bore fruit despite ongoing cost challenges.

The demand for premium services has increased at European airlines, despite the fact that the number of Europeans who travelled to the United States dropped last year. The outlook for 2026 has been relatively modest, as there are many economic concerns.

Ben Smith, Chief Executive of our airlines, said that they had carried more than 100 million passengers and achieved an operating result in excess of 2 billion Euros - the first time in 'our history.

This is a 400 million euro increase from 2024, and comfortably exceeds the 1,88 billion euros of?earnings after interest and tax?"forecast by LSEG's analysts.

As new planes arrive, the airline anticipates increasing its capacity between 3% and 5 % this year. The airline also stated that it aims to increase its operating margins to more than 8% by the year 2028. It reported a 6.1% margin?for the year 2025.

The results are better than expected in part due to a decrease in fuel prices and an increase in revenue. The cost of operating the airport in the Netherlands, Schiphol, has continued to rise.

Air France's premium cabins saw a strong growth, especially after it invested heavily in upgraded airport lounges, faster WiFi and a revamped First Class.

Air France-KLM's shares have risen by almost 34% in the past year as it has been able to?mitigate expensive labour challenges. Analysts warn that Americans may be less likely to travel to Europe this year as the economy continues to struggle.
