Canada labour minister proposes brand-new mediator for Montreal port employees strike

Canada's Labour Minister Steve MacKinnon on Tuesday proposed the consultation of a special conciliator for a 90day duration for Montreal port workers strike.

MacKinnon stated that there would be no strike or lock-out during the deadline settlement duration, according to a post on X.

Talks between the Maritime Employers Association (MEA) and Montreal Longshoremen's union stay in a deadlock over wages.

The celebrations will need to send reactions to the Labour Ministry no behind Friday, Oct. 18, the MEA stated in a. declaration.

The strike has impacted the Viau and Maisonneuve terminals,. which represent about 40% of the port's container traffic.
