Italy's Prysmian chosen for agreement in Spain worth over 500 mln euros

Italy's Prysmian stated on Wednesday that Spanish power grid operator Red Electrica had actually chosen it for an energy transmission task, which will be worth over 500 million euros ($ 541 million), to link the island of Mallorca with the mainland.

Under the agreement, Prysmian will develop, install, test and commission 2 high-voltage cables, along with fibre-optic cable for telecom and tracking functions, linking Mallorca with the Spanish mainland power grid and covering both submarine and land areas, the business said in a declaration.

Prysmian, the world's largest cable maker, and Red Electrica will now hold special negotiations on the agreement, with signing expected by the end of this year, Prysmian stated.

In the last few years the two business cooperated on a number of power connection jobs in the Spanish islands.

Prysmian will report its first-half earnings on Thursday. In July it settled the $4.2 billion acquisition of U.S. company Repetition Wire.
