Sweden extends Forsmark 3 nuclear plant failure to Jan. 27

Swedish utility Vattenfall said on Friday it had further extended a continuous maintenance blackout at its Forsmark 3 nuclear power plant to Jan. 27, nearly 4 months longer than at first planned.

Vattenfall stopped the reactor for annual maintenance on Sep. 1, at first scheduling a restart for Oct. 1, however has because

the blackout after cracks were discovered on two of its low pressure turbines.

The work to fix and repair the fractures ... is taking longer than initially approximated. Each fracture is analysed and repaired individually, Vattenfall said in a statement.
