ONEOK, MPLX will build LPG pipeline and export terminal in Texas

Pipeline operator ONEOK, and midstream company MPLX LP have entered into a joint-venture to build a 400,000 barrel per day (bpd), liquefied petrol gas (LPG), export terminal in Texas. The investment total is $1.4 billion.

Both companies will invest the same amount to jointly own and operate the Texas City Logistics export terminal (TCX), which is due to be finished in early 2028. MPLX is responsible for the construction and operation of the facility.

The agreement includes ONEOK constructing and operating a 24 inch pipeline from its Mont Belvieu storage facility, Texas, to ONEOK's new export terminal. ONEOK owns 80% of the pipeline.

Midstream energy companies have experienced increased investor interest, as they bet on long-term growth, fueled in part by the increasing demand for electricity, as more EVs become available and as power-hungry technologies like generative AI gain popularity.

ONEOK released a statement saying that these projects with MPLX "complement our disciplined capital-allocation strategy" given our high expectations of future growth and the demand for energy infrastructure including export capacity.
