Bangladesh problems another tender to purchase 50,000 T rice

Bangladesh's state grains purchaser has issued a global tender to acquire 50,000 metric tons of rice, traders said on Tuesday.

The deadline for submission of rate offers is Nov. 18.

A previous tender from Bangladesh for 50,000 lots of rice closed on Monday with rice from India offered at the lowest price with a choice about a purchase still awaited.

Floods in Bangladesh have destroyed an approximated 1.1 million metric tons of rice, according to information from the agriculture ministry, prompting the country to expand imports of the staple grain amid skyrocketing food prices.

Bangladesh, the world's third-largest rice manufacturer, normally produces nearly 40 million lots of rice a year to feed its population of 170 million. However, natural disasters routinely interfere with production and cause increased reliance on imports.

The brand-new tender looks for cost offers for non-basmati parboiled rice in CIF liner out terms, including ship dumping expenses, for delivery to the ports of Chattogram and Mongla.

The rice can originate from around the world origins and shipment is needed 40 days after contract award.
