India's joyful period retail auto sales grow 12%, dealerships' body states

India's auto sales by dealers to consumers grew by about 12% throughout this year's joyful season compared to the previous year, led by twowheeler sales on the back of strong rural need, information from a dealerships' body revealed on Friday.

The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA). stated joyful duration sales from Oct. 3 to Nov. 13 was available in at. about 4.3 million systems, compared to in 2015's 3.8 million. systems.

However, FADA said the sales fell short of its target of 4.5. million, blaming uncommonly heavy rains in South India and a. cyclone in the eastern state of Odisha.

Indians normally make big-ticket purchases on products like. cars during the festive season. The festive season kicked. off in mid-October in 2015 and lasted till mid-November.

Sales of two-wheelers grew about 14%, while vehicle sales increased. 7%, assisted by what FADA called extraordinary discount rates.

Indian dealers' automobile sales increased 32.4% in October, helped by. festive demand, especially for sports energy automobiles (SUV), as. well as brand-new model launches and offers, but inventory levels. stayed high, FADA stated earlier this month.

Stock levels are an indicator of demand. High stock. levels had required car manufacturers to decrease sales to dealers and. offer greater discounts as display room owners grapple with increasing. levels of unsold cars.

FADA President C S Vigneshwar said he is enthusiastic that. cars and truck stock levels will inch lower through the rest of. the year, however told Reuters it would take at least 3 months. to normalise at the perfect level of 21 days.
