Bangladesh receives offers for 50,000 T of wheat, traders report

European traders reported that the lowest bidder in a Bangladeshi state grain buyer's international tender to buy and import 50,000 tons of wheat, which ended on Wednesday, was valued at $295.21 per metric ton CIF.

Traders said that offers are still being considered, and no purchases have yet been reported.

The reports reflect the opinions of traders, and it is still possible to estimate prices and volume later.

In recent months, Bangladesh has become active on the wheat and rice markets after flooding in the country between August 2024 and October 2024 caused an estimated loss of 1.1 million tonnes of rice.

Trading house Aston was thought to have submitted the lowest bid.

Traders said that they believed three other companies participated in the bid.

Cereal Crops, Aditya Birla and Agrocorp offered $306. Aditya Birla $309.87 per ton CIF liner and Agrocorp $299.92 each.

CIF terms include the costs of ocean shipping and ship loading.

Bangladesh does not usually make decisions immediately about the purchase of wheat. It can take some confirmation time.

The contract is signed 40 days later. The wheat can come from anywhere in the world except Israel, and will be shipped to two ports: Chittagong or Mongla. (Reporting and editing by Jane Merriman, Michael Hogan)
