Bangladesh receives offers to purchase 50,000 T of rice in tender, traders claim

The traders estimated that the lowest price in the tender for Bangladesh's state grain buyer to buy 50,000 metric tonnes of rice, which closed on Friday, was $416.44 per metric ton CIF liners out.

They said that Agrocorp is believed to be the source of the offer.

They said that offers are still being evaluated and no purchases have yet been reported. Bangladesh has a tradition of taking some time to consider the price offers made in wheat and rice tenders before making a final decision.

The reports reflect the opinions of traders, and it is still possible to estimate prices and volume later.

After a bad year of weather, Bangladesh continues to buy a lot of rice on international markets.

Floods in Bangladesh

In August and October of 2024, the destruction of 1.1 million tons rice prompted the country to increase imports to lower food prices.

Bangladesh also released another tender on Thursday for 50,000 tons rice, which will close on April 10.

The tender for non-basmati rice parboiled in CIF terms (cost, insurance, freight, plus ship unloading cost) was held on Thursday.

The traders said that the following companies participated in the tender on Thursday, and their offers were estimated by them per ton CIF: Pattabhi Agro Foods, Mondal, Stone, Bagadiya Brothers, $424.99, and Gurudeo Exports, $423.23.

The tender is seeking price quotes for non-basmati rice parboiled from around the world. Shipment is due 40 days after contract award. Michael Hogan reported, Gareth Jones edited.
