Poland claims that the Russian secret service has hired Colombians for arson attacks

The Polish Internal Security Agency (ABW), on Tuesday, said that a Colombian acting for Russian intelligence committed two arson attacks last year in Poland before setting fire to a Czech Republic bus depot.

ABW reported that the suspect, a 27-year old man, set two construction supply depots on fire in Poland in 2024 as a result of Russian orders in retaliation for ABW's hybrid warfare campaign.

"He was taught by someone connected with Russian intelligence services" He was taught how to make Molotov Cocktails, incendiary material, and document the arson attacks, Jacek Dobrzynski said at a press briefing.

ABW stated that Russian-language media used photographs and videos for propaganda and disinformation.

Dobrzynski stated that Russian media falsely reported one of the fires to be at a logistic centre in Radom, which was used to store European military equipment as an aid for Ukraine.

In response to an inquiry, the Russian embassy in Warsaw said that it would not comment on unfounded allegations.

Dobrzynski claimed that after the arson attacks on Poland, the Colombian traveled to the Czech Republic where he lit a bus depot ablaze. When Czech authorities arrested him, it was thought that he was preparing a second attack on a mall.

He was sentenced to 8 years in prison (in the Czech Republic) for terrorist acts he committed. He could face up to ten years in prison, or even life imprisonment, in Poland.

Officials say that sabotage has targeted Poland as part of the "hybrid warfare" that Moscow is waging to destabilize nations who support Ukraine in its war with Russia. This hybrid war includes tactics such as arson and cyberattacks.

In the past, Russia has denied any involvement in such attacks. (Reporting and editing by Giles Elgood; Pawel Florkiewicz, Barbara Erling)
