UK maritime agency claims only warning shots were fired in Aden incident

A UK maritime agency reported a Tuesday incident that involved a vessel, small boats and was located 70 nautical miles southwest of the port 'Aden' in Yemen. The incident has been downgraded from "suspicious activities" to "warning shots fired".

United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations said earlier that it had received a report about an exchange of small-arms firing after a vessel approached and was hailed by a?white skiff? with five people aboard.

It said that it was informed in an update that only warning shots had been fired and no weapons were directed towards either vessel.

UKMTO reported that two additional skiffs were also spotted in the area. Authorities are investigating and have advised ships to proceed with caution.

Since?2023, Yemen's Houthi terrorists have attacked vessels in the Red Sea, claiming to be in solidarity with Palestinians in response to Israel's Gaza war. The attacks have ceased since an October ceasefire was reached between Israel and Hamas.

However, some shipping companies are still hesitant to resume voyages in those waters.

The attacks have disrupted the flow of trade through the Suez Canal and the Red Sea, two of the busiest shipping routes in the world.
