South Korea's MFG purchases corn through tenders, traders claim

Major Feedmill Group of South Korea (MFG) began buying animal feed corn at two international tenders, aiming to buy a combined total of 288,000 metric tons. The initial purchase was 136,000 tons.

They said that a consignment of 68,000 tons worldwide optional origin corn cost and freight was estimated at $253.99 per ton, including a surcharge relating to additional port unloading.

Bunge, a trading house, is believed to have sold the first consignment for arrival on July 7, South Korea.

The cost of the corn, including freight and port charges, was estimated at $256.49 per ton.

Cargill, a trading company, was thought to be the seller. The corn was scheduled for arrival in South Korea on August 10.

On Thursday, two MFG tenders were received with price offers.

They said that the first tender is only for 140,000 tons to be sourced from South America and South Africa, with an August arrival date in South Korea. They said that the second tender is for 140,000 tons of grain originating from South America, South Africa, and other origins worldwide, to arrive in South Korea by July.

The reports reflect the assessments of traders, and it is still possible to estimate prices and volume later. Michael Hogan is reporting.
