Norfolk Southern CEO faces probe over alleged workplace relationship, CNBC reports

Norfolk Southern's board is taking a look at allegations that Chief Executive Alan Shaw took part in an unsuitable workplace relationship, CNBC reported on Sunday, pointing out three individuals acquainted with the matter.

Norfolk Southern did not right away respond to a Reuters' request for comment.

The investigation remains in its early stages, and it is possible that no misbehavior may be uncovered, the report said, adding that the railway operator is dealing with outdoors legal advisors on the probe.

In May, activist investor Ancora won 3 board seats at the railroad operator but stopped working to oust the railway's chief executive.

Ancora had actually proposed investors push Alan Shaw off the board and choose Jim Barber, a former chief operating officer at UPS, so that he could eventually change Shaw as CEO. They also proposed Jamie Boychuk to become the chief running officer.

Shaw signed up with the business in May 2022, changing Jim Squires.

The hedge fund argued new members was needed to improve monetary and operational metrics and stated it would continue to hold the company liable for any future railway mishaps or underperformance.

The Atlanta, Georgia-based business reported operating earnings of $3 billion in the second quarter, up 2% from last year, narrowly missing experts' estimates of $3.04 billion.
