The Kremlin has confirmed that Russia is investigating Ukrainian drone strikes on its airfields as well as railway explosions

The Kremlin announced on Tuesday that Russia has launched an official probe into the weekend Ukrainian drone attacks against its military airfields, as well as a probe into the two explosions which hit its rail system.

Ukraine said it used drones in its attack on air bases located thousands of miles away from its territory, in Siberia. It also claimed to have hit dozens of Russian aircraft, including bombers with long-range nuclear capability, on Sunday.

The Russian military confirmed that "several of their planes" caught fire due to this attack at two air bases and that drone attacks against three other airfields were repelled.

In another incident, a bridge over a train carrying 388 passengers from the neighboring Ukraine to Russia was destroyed by an explosion in Russia's Bryansk Region. Nobody claimed responsibility. Another rail bridge collapsed in the Kursk region.

When asked on Tuesday about how Russia would react to the drone attacks, Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesperson said that President Vladimir Putin was kept informed of the incidents and an official investigation is underway.

Peskov said, "I would suggest that you wait for the investigation results." (Reporting and writing by Dmitry Antonov; Editing and editing by Andrew Osborn).
