American Airlines, union stop working to reach offer on new contract

A union representing flight attendants for American Airlines Group said on Thursday that the current round of talks with the provider did not lead to a contract this week.

The Association of Specialist Flight Attendants (APFA),. which represents about 28,000 American Airlines flight. attendants, said it has actually moved better to a strike as the airline company. did not provide a beneficial contract.

The airline company's flight attendants, nevertheless, can not walk off. the job till the National Mediation Board (NMB) grants them. consent.

The board will initially need to determine that both the parties. are at a deadlock and additional bargaining would not be. efficient. This prolonged and complicated process makes it rather. difficult for airline company workers to strike.

Last year, the NMB rejected a request from the union to be. released from federal mediation.

American Airlines in an emailed statement to on. Thursday stated it will continue to negotiate with the union so. that its flight attendants take advantage of the contract.

This arrangement is within reach and we look forward to. extra dates being scheduled, the airline company spokesperson. said.

The existing round of settlements began in January 2020,. but was paused at the height of the pandemic. Talks resumed in. June 2021.

Previously this month, the airline company had provided its flights. attendants immediate wage boosts of 17% in their new. contract, which was later unanimously declined by the APFA.
