JetBlue to buy sustainable jet fuel for use at New York airport

JetBlue Airways said on Wednesday it accepted acquire sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). from a system of U.S. refiner Valero Energy Corp, which. would be dispersed by energy firm World Kinect, for. usage in flights from New York's airport.

Under regards to the offer, World Fuel Services will offer. the fuel supply to John F. Kennedy International Airport from. the fourth quarter of 2024.

Airline companies have been under pressure from ecological groups. to decrease their carbon footprint, with the Biden administration. setting targets to increase SAF output and assist the domestic. aviation market move away from traditional fuels.

As a part of the initial 12-month offer, JetBlue is expected. to take delivery of about 3.3 million gallons of mixed fuel,. with an alternative to acquire as much as an additional 13.3 million. gallons of combined fuel.

JetBlue said the SAF, made from a broad range of feedstocks,. consisting of farming wastes and utilized cooking oils, will be. blended by Valero with standard jet fuel to develop combined. SAF which can decrease greenhouse gas emissions by about 80%,. compared to standard jet fuel.
