Avfuel and Alaska Airlines support AIR COMPANY in funding round

Avfuel, a supplier of aviation fuels, has backed climate technology company AIR COMPANY in its latest round of funding. The firm is looking to convert carbon dioxide (CO2) into a variety more environmentally friendly products.

The $69 million Series-B raise will be used to finance engineering and research. It uses a photosynthesis-like process to convert carbon and hydrogen from the air into alcohols free of impurities that can be found in everything, including vodka and perfume.

Alaska Airlines, Lowercarbon Capital and Avfuel, the company that led the round of investors, joined Avfuel in this new round. Investors from the past, including Toyota's venture arm and JetBlue Airlines, also participated.

Avfuel will be the preferred distributor and logistics provider for the clean jet-fuel and join the board of directors, AIR COMPANY announced in a press release.

Gregory Constantine, co-founder of AIR COMPANY and its Chief Executive Officer, said that "our technology is designed as modular to facilitate adoption and scalability."

The firm has signed offtake agreements with JetBlue, Virgin Atlantic, Boom Supersonic and other airlines, as well as a contract with Department of Defense.

The company has also successfully completed its first unmanned flight, using jet fuel that does not require blending before use.
