Eight strikes by Boeing's US factory workers

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Employee (IAM) is the biggest aerospace union in The United States and Canada and represents Boeing's U.S. West Coast factory workers.

IAM workers have gone on strike 8 times since the Boeing area was developed in the 1930s, according to IAM files, including the current walkout that began on Sept. 13.

1948

Workers staged their longest strike, lasting 140 days, over seniority and closed shop problems.

1965

A 19-day strike resulted in enhancements to seniority arrangements, grievance treatments and dependent medical protection.

1977

A 45-day strike ended with pension enhancements and senior citizen medical coverage.

1989

A 48-day strike attained modifications to overtime conditions.

1995

A 69-day strike ended with modifications to pensions, job security and layoff advantages.

2005

A 28-day strike preserved medical benefits and senior citizen medical advantages and enhanced pension benefits and seniority rights.

2008

Employees went on strike for 57 days. The union said it accomplished development on healthcare and pension issues.

2024

Employees were on strike for 53 days before voting to approve a new contract.
