Australia takes airline company Regional Express to court over governance failures

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) stated on Wednesday it had actually taken legal action against airline operator Regional Express for supposedly making an inaccurate claim of a favorable fiscal outlook in 2015.

The regulative body declares that Rex made a deceptive announcement to the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) on Feb. 28 in 2015, claiming a positive outlook for financial 2023, in spite of having no affordable basis for such a claim.

ASIC's claim, submitted in the Supreme Court of New South Wales, claims that Rex's previous executive chair, Lim Kim Hai, breached his tasks by authorizing and stopping working to take actions to fix the announcement.

The airline, which

entered

voluntary administration previously this year, had incurred losses in the financial year-to-date and had not prepared a. monetary projection financial 2023 before releasing the statement,. ASIC stated.

The regulator said it will seek statements, monetary. charges and disqualification orders against Rex's former. executive chair and three other directors.

Rex did not immediately react to Reuters' ask for. remarks.
