Poland seizes tires for Boeing aircraft heading to Russia

The National Revenue Administration of Poland announced on Monday that it had seized five metric tons (five metric tonnes) of tyres intended for civil Boeing aircraft due to transit Belarus and Russia.

Since the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Western countries have imposed a wide range of sanctions against Russia and Belarus.

Western planemakers including Airbus, Boeing and others have stopped supplying services and spares and reduced regular maintenance for aircraft.

The National Revenue Administration reported that "Officers... discovered, during an inspection of a vehicle in Koroszczyn, that the driver had been transporting tyres from Boeing civil planes in place of the declared car tyres and bus tyres."

"The recipient of the goods is from Azerbaijan, but the sender was a Spanish company." Customs fraud was the subject of criminal fiscal proceedings. "The sanctioned products were detained."

The statement didn't identify the manufacturer. Boeing did not respond immediately to an email request for comment.

Boeing announced that it would suspend major operations and parts for Russian airlines, as well as maintenance, technical support, and parts in Moscow, shortly after the invasion of 2022. Boeing also stated that it adhered to strict export controls and regulations.

The Russian aviation industry is heavily dependent on planes made abroad.
