Trump announces $14.5 Billion Etihad commitment to Boeing, GE

The White House announced that President Donald Trump had announced Thursday deals worth over $200 billion between United States and United Arab Emirates. This included a $14.5-billion commitment by Boeing, GE Aerospace, and Etihad Airways.

The White House announced that Boeing and GE received a commitment by Etihad Airways, to invest $14.5billion to purchase 28 American-made Boeing 777X and 787 aircraft powered by GE engine. Etihad didn't immediately respond to an inquiry for comment. Boeing and GE did not respond.

The White House stated that the addition of the next generation 777X to its fleet plan deepens the longstanding partnership between the UAE, United States and commercial aviation. This investment fuels American manufacturing and drives exports.

Etihad's fleet is made up of 100 aircraft.

Last month, Etihad CEO Antonoaldo Neves stated that

Etihad plans to add between 20 and 22 new aircraft this year.

It aims to increase its fleet size to over 170 aircraft by 2030, and to boost Abu Dhabi’s economic diversification strategies.

Etihad is owned by Abu Dhabi’s $225 billion wealth funds ADQ. It has undergone a multi-year reorganization and management shake-up but has expanded in recent years.

The Airbus A321LRs that the carrier will begin operating in August are 10 of this year's new aircraft. Six Airbus A350s, and four Boeing 787s make up the remainder.

Boeing 737-800 landed on Wednesday.

The company has signed its largest deal yet for widebody vehicles

According to the White House, during Trump's trip to Qatar, the state carrier Qatar Airways made firm orders for 160 jetliners and options to purchase 50 more, totaling $96 billion. (Reporting and editing by Deepababington, Costas Pitas and David Shepardson)
