Pakistan extends the deadline for bids on national airline until June 19,

The Pakistani privatisation ministry announced on Tuesday that the deadline for expressing interest in buying Pakistan International Airlines has been extended to June 19.

The previous deadline was set at June 3. The ministry has not given any explanation for the extension, and has not disclosed whether there have been any expressions submitted.

Pakistan is looking to sell 51% to 100% of its stake in the airline to raise money and reform cash-sucking state-owned companies as envisaged by a $7 billion International Monetary Fund program.

Last year, the failed attempt by Pakistan to privatise Pakistan International Airlines resulted in a single bid that was well below $300 million.

After the previous privatisation failed due to issues raised by bidders, Pakistan has transferred almost all the legacy debts and liabilities of its national carrier to government accounts.
