Air Europa, a Spanish airline, has also cancelled flights to Venezuela

Air Europa, a Spanish carrier, suspended Monday its flights from and to Venezuela. It joined a growing number of airlines that had been warned by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration of "potentially dangerous situations" while flying over Venezuela.

A spokesperson for Air Europa said that the five weekly flights between Madrid, Spain and Caracas, Venezuela will be suspended on Tuesday, "until the conditions permit" their resume. The company declined to provide any further details.

Spanish media reported late Monday that Plus Ultra has also suspended its Madrid-Caracas flight.

IAG's Spanish carrier Iberia announced last weekend that it would also suspend its Venezuelan flights, joining other airlines like Brazil's Gol and Colombia's Avianca, as well as TAP Air Portugal.

A spokesperson for Iberia said Monday that the suspension will last at least until December 1.

The U.S. FAA issued a warning on Friday about "the worsening security situation" in Venezuela and the "increased military activity around Venezuela". It also warned that threats could be dangerous for aircraft of all altitudes.

In recent months there has been an enormous American military buildup, including the largest aircraft carrier of the U.S. Navy, as well as at least eight warships and F-35s. (Reporting and editing by Daniel Wallis; Reporting by Joan Faus)
