Maersk takes out of bidding for Germany's DB Schenker, shares increase

Danish shipping group Maersk said on Monday it is no longer interested in buying DB Schenker as integrating the logistics firm would position too many challenges.

German state rail operator Deutsche Bahn last year introduced a sale process for its logistics arm and Maersk has formerly stated it was thinking about buying it.

Our investigation verified DB Schenker as a fascinating company ... But the in-depth evaluation likewise determined areas of obstacles from an integration perspective, Maersk CEO Vincent Clerc stated in a statement.

We concluded that obtaining DB Schenker would not be the best thing to do for our company at this time.

Sources knowledgeable about the matter told in May that Deutsche Bahn had picked Maersk, DSV, Bahri and CVC in consortium with ADIA and GIC to enter the final round of a sale process.

Several of the quotes sent by the four in an earlier round went beyond 15 billion euros ($ 16.13 billion), the sources stated. Other quotes was available in between 13 billion and 14 billion euros, among the sources included.

Maersk shares were up 6%, and Danish freight forwarder DSV's. shares 5% greater, shortly after the announcement.
