Singapore port authority seeks proposals on scaling up LNG bunker supply

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has actually introduced an expression of interest (EOI) to collect proposals for scaling up liquefied natural gas (LNG) for bunkering or ship refuelling, it stated in a. statement on Thursday.

The EOI seeks options for sea-based LNG reloading to. enhance existing onshore LNG bunkering storage and jetty. capabilities, in addition to the supply of e-methane or bio-methane as. a marine fuel in Singapore, the world's biggest bunker center.

Proposals will be collected on three areas including the. scale-up of sea-based reloading operations, the supply of LNG. options such as melted bio-methane, and the advancement. of floating platform concepts to improve bunkering security and. performance.

The propositions must consist of procedures to resolve the concern. of methane slip on a well-to-wake basis, which spans the entire. process of fuel production, delivery and the use onboard ships.

Individuals do not need to be an existing LNG bunkering. licensee, said MPA, adding that the picked business will be. required to carry out trials in Singapore to confirm the proposed. service's operational expediency and security.

Insights from the EOI and the trials will contribute to. MPA's evaluation of the LNG licensing structure, it added.

Need for LNG as a marine fuel is expected to increase in this. decade as more dual-fuel vessels join the global fleet, industry. executives formerly informed Reuters.

LNG bunker volumes delivered in Singapore totalled more than. 385,000 metric loads between January and October 2024, currently. more than tripling from the total 2023 volume, based upon MPA. information.
